Oil Cleansing with Kōaka Organic Moisturising Serum

Your Kōaka Organic Hemp Moisturising Serum works really well as a makeup remover and an oil cleanser. Its plant oils and antioxidants bind to grime and makeup, breaking it down and drawing it out, making it an excellent blackhead remover.

What is Oil Cleansing?

Oil cleansing is becoming increasingly popular as a way to clean, protect and nourish skin. While traditional cleansers can lead to irritation, dryness and acne, oil cleansing can help to hydrate and restore balance to the skin.

Doing an oil cleanse is like applying a deep moisturiser on your skin. Oils act as solvents, so not only do they soften and moisturise the skin, they dissolve makeup and excess natural oils that your skin produces.

Oil Cleansing Benefits

Oil cleansing is thought to have originated in Korea, though the idea of using oils to clean the skin has been around for hundreds of years.

They have three main purposes:

  • Remove sebum, an oily, waxy substance that your skin produces

  • Clean clogged pores and remove blackheads

  • Remove dead skin, makeup and other pollutants

An oil cleanse is a great way to remove your makeup and nourish the skin at the same time, meaning you don’t have to go through a separate process.

Is an Oil Cleanse Right for Me?

Anyone can do an oil cleanse, regardless of your skin type.

It’s especially good if you tend to wear long-lasting makeup that can be stubborn to remove, or if you haven’t found an effective way to remove blackheads.

How Often Should I do an Oil Cleanse?

This really comes down to personal preference. You can do a daily oil cleanse as part of your regular skincare routine, or it can be less frequent. But you don’t need to do it any more than once a day.

An oil cleanse is most effective at night, as it cleans and hydrates your skin before you sleep.

What Kind of Oil Should I Use?

In the past, people have used food oils like avocado, olive or castor oil to do an oil cleanse, so there are plenty of options to choose from. Although if you’re taking that approach then be sure to use premium products, not food-grade oils!

It’s important to use high quality oils that don’t have any added fragrances or dyes. Even better, cold-pressed, unrefined oils such as your Kōaka Organic Hemp Moisturising Serum are natural products that are rich in vitamins and the antioxidants that really maximise hydration.

How to do an Oil Cleanse

Here’s how to use your Kōaka Organic Moisturising Serum as an oil cleanser:

  1. Start with a dry face. If you’re wearing makeup, you don’t need to do anything extra before starting.

  2. Drop a generous puddle of oil/ serum into the palm of your hand but don’t overdo it.

Aim for roughly the size of a coin.

  3. Rub your hands together to warm the oil, then massage it over your face for 1-2 minutes. Massaging the oil onto your skin will help to unclog pores, and remove any dirt, dead skin or makeup. Focus on covering the whole of your face - you don’t have to concentrate on specific areas where you have blackheads or makeup.

  4. Use a warm, damp face cloth to gently wipe away any excess oil. Repeat this step a couple of times if necessary, rinsing the face cloth each time with warm water.

  5. Pat your skin dry and finish up by applying a few drops of Kōaka Organic Moisturising Serum or Organic Night Serum.
